The Arewa Democratic Front (ADF) has written to President Bola Tinubu, urging him to caution the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over his recent comments perceived as threats of violence against Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors, particularly those from Northern Nigeria.

In a letter signed by ADF President Mustapha Yusuf and Coordinating Secretary Muazu Haruna, the group expressed concern over Wike’s statement, where he vowed to “put fire” in the states of governors who dare to challenge his influence in Rivers State. The ADF described Wike’s comments as “a clear danger to national security” and “inflammatory words” that demand a serious and immediate response from the President.

The group also called on the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, to investigate Wike’s threats and prevent any escalation of tensions. The ADF reminded President Tinubu that Northern Nigeria has borne the brunt of violence and instability in recent years, and Wike’s comments could further exacerbate the situation.

The ADF’s letter reads in part: “Wike’s audacious declaration, in which he vowed to unleash political turmoil in the states of PDP governors who dare to challenge his influence in Rivers State, is a clear danger to national security. His threats to ‘burn’ the states of any governor who crosses his path, especially those from Northern Nigeria, cannot be brushed aside as mere political rhetoric.”

The group’s appeal to President Tinubu comes amidst growing concerns over the potential for political violence in the lead-up to future elections. The ADF’s call for caution and investigation highlights the need for responsible leadership and restraint in political discourse.
