The recent incident involving Adamu Hashimu Ranga, the representative for Ningi/Warji Federal Constituency in Bauchi State, highlights growing discontent among constituents regarding political representation. During the burial of the late Emir of Ningi, Ranga faced a hostile reception from angry youths who accused him of neglecting his responsibilities since his election in 2023 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
As Ranga attempted to leave the event, the situation escalated when the youths began chanting “Ba mu yi, ba mu yi” (meaning “We don’t want you”) and hurled stones and sand at his convoy. Eyewitness accounts described the scene as chaotic, with the lawmaker’s vehicle sustaining significant damage, including shattered windows and mirrors. Security personnel eventually intervened to ensure Ranga’s safe departure.
This incident is not isolated, as there have been previous attempts by constituents to recall Ranga from the National Assembly, which were halted only through the intervention of community leaders, including the late Emir. The growing frustration among the youth suggests a broader dissatisfaction with political representation and accountability in the region.
