Angry Youth Kill Police Officer Who Allegedly Shot Pregnant Woman Dead

Human rights violation, Lagos State, Nigeria Newspaper, Police brutality,  Angry youth have killed a police officer in Lagos for killing a pregnant woman by a stray bullet from his gun. Mr. Damilare Olarenwaju, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) has been killed by angry youth for shooting and killing a pregnant woman.
The police officer who was killed at the Agbole area of Ijegun in Egbe-Idimu Local Council Development Area on Friday, was said to have killed a pregnant woman by a stray bullet when he shot at a guy suspected to be an internet fraudster (yahoo boy). Mrs. Biliki, the pregnant woman, was in her shop doing her tailoring work while the police officer who was chasing a suspected yahoo boy gun her down while aiming to shoot at the suspect. The incident got youth in the area angry, making them to lynch the police officer to death, injured two officers.
The injured officers this newspaper learned ran into the Ijegun monarch at Ologun to be protected from been killed by the angry youth. “How can policemen fire shot at a roundabout, on a Saturday close to festive period in Ijegun? “The road in front of the king’s palace is impassable at the moment. Vehicular movements have been diverted into a nearby street to access Ijegun bus stop. “The information I gathered is that the policemen from Area M fired gunshots while chasing suspected criminal and the bullet killed a woman. Youth in the area killed him and injured his colleagues.
One of them managed to crawl to the Oba’s palace,” a resident told The Nation. Mr. Bala Elkana, the Lagos State Police Command spokesman confirming the incident, say the woman was shot dead, and disclosed his men have been deployed to the area to restore peace and order. “I cannot tell you what really happened at the moment but it is true that we lost an ASP and two order ranks were injured. They are of the Anti-kidnapping unit attached to Area M. “Reinforcement has been deployed to the area for the restoration of peace. Let us first calm the situation before we can talk of what happened,” he said.
