Anger In Kogi East As Thugs Destroyed Radio Kogi Ochaja, The Only Radio In Igala Land

Persons suspected to be vandals have attacked Radio Kogi, Ochaja sub-station, carted valuables and destroyed property belonging to the organization.

Patience Salawu, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the state Ministry of Information and Communications on Tuesday in Lokoja in a statement said the attack was carried out on Monday night of June 5.

She added that the Information Ministry officials, led by the Commissioner, Mr. Kingsley Femi Fanwo, and the Director-General of the Broadcasting Corporation, Ojo Oyila Ozovehe, had an on-the-spot assessment visit to the station to enable to assess the level of damage.

According to Salawu, Governor Yahaya Bello has directed security agencies to move into action and ensure that the perpetrators are arrested and brought to book to forestall possible recurrence.

According to her, security agencies were already receiving useful intelligence to aid their investigation into the matter, adding that the Divisional Police Station in Egume is working round the clock to apprehend the perpetrators.

She said the Ministry had expressed fear that with the level of damage done to the station, it would not be able to operate in the time being, adding however that the state Government was making efforts to return the station to the air, as soon as possible.

According to the PRO, the Ministry officials on the assessment tour of the vandalized station thanked the traditional ruler of the host community for his concern over the unfortunate incident.

Salawu said the officials called on communities where government infrastructure is located to ensure the safety of such infrastructure.
