It was a rain of praise and supplications as Commissioners, Management and staff of the National Assembly Service Commission rolled out the drums to celebrate the Executive Chairman of the Commission, Engr, Ahmed Kadi Amshi as he turned 69 on Tuesday.
Speaking at a surprise birthday party put together by the staff of the Office of the Chairman, the Commissioner described Amshi as “a positive task driver” and an achiever who had recorded a lot of feats in a short while.
They highlighted the near complete Office Complex, decisive action to normalize the retirement time, clearing of all promotion backlogs met on assumption of office, absorption of over 200 hundred workers employed by the 4th Commission but were prevented from assuming duties, development of a training policy to enhance capacity building for workers, staff welfare, development of a code of ethics for National Assembly Service, and numerous others, as the highpoint of Engr. Amshi’s leadership in the Commission.
According to Senator Julius Ali Ucha Commissioner, South-East) and Alhaji Auwalu Aliyu Ohindase (Commissioner, North-Central) who spoke on behalf of the 12 Commissioners, the Chairman’s open door policy, humility, compassion, innovativeness, good listenership, ability to conceive and see through an idea in spite of daunting obstacles, among others, were the characteristics that made Amshi stand out as an efficient and effective leader.
Mr. Lucky U. Ikharo, the Secretary to the Commission enthused: there is no better time to be Secretary to the Commission than under Engr. Amshi. This is because when he gives you a task, he follows through until the task is accomplished. He follows you through the tsk not as boss but as father would dutifully follow his son
through a task, listening to his inputs, correcting the son with love and disapproving the son’s inputs with superior arguments if the need arose”. He described him as a “father figure and a good boss”.
The Director of the Office of the Chairman, Mr. James Ekeji explained that his office organized the event to honour a good boss.
The chairman of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN, NASC Chapter), Adolf Oisamaye Ojemeri pointed out that the Executive Chairman was a comrade-boss who had helped resolve agitations of workers on Conditions of Service and urged him to continue to provide conducive environment for optimum productivity in the National Assembly Service.
Both the Commissioners and the staff prayed for long life, good health, wisdom and more opportunities for Engr Amshi to continue to serve the country.
