In what appeared as a planned event, the people of Akwa Ibom State have unanimously chided Ita Enang on his constant disparaging of the State government’s activities on air.
Enang who is the Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Niger Delta Affairs, was rebuked by Akwaibomites on Saturday, September 26, during a phone-in programme on one of the radio stations in the State and monitored by this reporter
One of the callers, Engr Ubok-Abasi from Ibiono who chided Ita Enang for his incessant criticism of the present administration, wondered why the occasion of the State’s Anniversary celebration was the best time for verbal wars and outbursts, and challenged him to point at one thing he has done for the State in his official capacity.
Rather than joining hands with the state leader to steer the ship of Akwa Ibom forward, the caller noted that Ita Enang was demarketing the state – an act he noted was detrimental to the progress of Akwa Ibom.
Another caller, Iboro Etim who recalled how Ita Enang and other leaders of the APC severally wrote petitions against Governor Udom Emmanuel to stop him from the developmental projects he was embarking on for the people. He wondered how the antagonists hoped to bring about developmentdevelopment, progress and unity by such attitudes.
A caller from Mkpat Enin who expressed bitterness at Ita Enang recalled how he bit Sen. John Udoedehe’s fingers at the 2019 APC primaries and further accused him of being a womanizer. He wondered if Enang’s constant outbursts were his ploy towards amassing cheap popularity for his 2023 ambition.
“If he’s going for Governor, he should use the conventional channel of communication to reach the people rather than hiding behind radio programmes to belittle the government “, he said.
He recalled how Ita Enang used the Calabar-Itu road project as a campaign strategy to win election but failed to deliver on his promises afterwards.
“Ita Enang should eschew bitterness and join hands in celebrating the state like others are doing. Akwa Ibom people know his mischievous tricks and cannot be deceived by his constant rants”, he said.
Meanwhile, Ita Enang is rumored to be very interested in the 2023 governorship election. Strong sources confirmed that he is already in plans to defeat his opponents, particularly, Udoedehe.
Ita Enang was also Akpabio’s strongest contender for the NDDC ministerial sit in 2019 when he argued that he stood better chances for the slot than Akpabio.
