The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has thrown out an appeal filed by Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi State, and ordered him to appear in court to face charges of alleged N80 billion money laundering.
Bello had appealed against an arrest warrant issued on April 17, 2024, but the Court of Appeal has ruled that he must appear before Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court, Abuja, to face trial.
The appeal court’s decision comes after Bello’s legal team, led by Musa Yakubu (SAN), had asked Justice Nwite to adjourn the proceedings indefinitely pending the outcome of the appeal.
With the appeal court’s ruling, Bello’s arraignment is expected to proceed under Appeal Nos. CA/ABJ/CR/535/2024 and CA/ABJ/CR/536/2024.
