In a move seen as an attempt to appease the youth ahead of the planned “Day of Rage” protests, the Federal Ministry of Youth Development has announced the relaunch of the Nigeria Youth Investment Fund (NYIF). The fund, worth N110 billion, aims to empower young entrepreneurs in priority sectors to drive economic growth.
The announcement, made on the ministry’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, invites young entrepreneurs with a “vision for the future” to apply for the fund. The move comes less than a week before the scheduled protests, which are expected to draw thousands of young Nigerians demanding better economic opportunities and governance.
The NYIF fund is part of the government’s efforts to address youth unemployment and restlessness, which have been cited as major concerns ahead of the protests. However, it remains to be seen whether this move will be enough to placate the youth and prevent the protests from going ahead.
