The ActionAid Resilience Programmes Coordinator, Mr. Anicetus Atakpu, said on Saturday the agency hoped to take its COVID-19awareness campaign to 36,000 rural dwellers in Kogi State.
Atakpu, who addressed journalists during the launching of its Door-to-Door COVID-19 Precautionary Awareness Campaign and strengthening of community facilitators in Koton-Karfe community in Kogi State, said the awareness campaign was necessary due to the rising cases of COVID-19 in the country.
Kogi and Cross River are the only states in Nigeria that have not recorded a single case of COVID-19 since February 27 when the country had its case of the disease.
The ActionAid official said the programme was in pursuant of the System and Structure Strengthening Approach against Radicalisation to Violent Extremism (SARVE II) Project being implemented in Kogi and Nasarawa States and funded by Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund, GCERF.
He said: “Our target is to reach over 36,000 community inhabitants, especially our SARVE II project communities, the most vulnerable, while prioritising women, children, nursing mothers and the elderly.”
