The Chairman of the House Committee on Steel Development and member Representing Ankpa, Omala and Olamaboro federal Constituency at the Federal House of Representatives, Hon Abdullahi Ibrahim Halims, has over the weekend in Ankpa, commenced the first phase of his Empowerment and Training programme, been part of his constituency development project.
While flagging off the programme, the Deputy Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency, Chief Edward David Onoja in his remarks hailed the initiative of the federal lawmaker while appealing to the beneficiaries to endeavour and utilize the opportunity to start and grow their personal businesses so as to achieve government policy goals of economic growth, poverty alleviation and employment generation.
The flag off, which drew one thousand beneficiaries from across the three Local Government Areas of the Federal Constituency, witnessed a massive turn out of women and youth groups in the area.
In his opening speech read at His Constituency Head office located at No40, Ankpa-Enugu road, Hon Halims said the training programme was hinged on his desire to boost vocational skills in order to equip constituents with adequate personal capacities which was the hallmark of his campaign.
Speaking further, He said the programme aims towards realizing the goals of the National Enterprise Development Programme stressing that the intervention would provide marketable technical and vocational training for youths and women, equipping them with such skills that would enable them to be self-employed and self-reliant.
According to Hon Halims: “This flag off signifies the beginning of our Capacity Building which yearns to empower our people and eradicate poverty from our land in complimenting the effort of the state and federal governments in poverty eradication.” he said.
The items distributed among others things were peacock rear tricycles, motorcycles, grinding machines, sewing machines and tyre service (vulcanising) engines.
The event was well attended by political leaders from the state among whom were members of Kogi State House of Assembly, Administrators, Royal father and political appointees who presented goodwill messages too. They applauded Hon Halims on this laudable initiative and enjoined him to sustain it for the greater good of the masses.
