The Federal Capital Territory Administration FCTA has cleared shanties at the Bureau De Change BDC headquarters in Wuse Zone 4, telling the operators that they cannot carry out their businesses under trees.
Leader of the City Management Team and Director, Department of Development Control, Mukhtar Galadima, said the shanties serve as hideouts for suspected criminals in the area.
Describing the area as an eyesore, Galadima said security reports emanating from there were damning.
“BDC operators are expected to operate from designated and licenced areas. They are not supposed to operate under trees and in bushes. So, that is why we have to clear the place.
“The place is still under litigation but you see, security is paramount so also safety and cleanliness. We have to look at these parameters very well not forgetting that the site is under litigation but we have to provide safety and security for Abuja residents.”
Meanwhile, the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, will next month commission a waterpark in Abuja.
This was made known on Wednesday, when a delegation of the Sunrise Estate Developers and the Nadeem Group, paid a courtesy call on the minister and invited him to the commissioning of the project.
