A Nigerian businessman, Henrich Bankole Akomolafe, has made a shocking accusation against the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) for demolishing his N150 million poultry farm in Abuja without prior notice.
According to Akomolafe, the farm, located in Lokogoma, was destroyed, resulting in the death of over 5,000 birds and the loss of jobs for 50 workers. He claims to have all necessary papers, including the certificate of occupancy, and is seeking answers from the authorities.
This incident is the latest in a series of demolitions in Abuja, sparking concerns about government accountability and transparency. Residents of the Committee on Resettlement and Development Layout have also appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Minister Nyesom Wike for intervention and redress regarding alleged demolitions and land takeovers.
Akomolafe took to social media to express his frustration, saying, “I am heartbroken & angry. Yesterday, my N150 million investment in a poultry farm located in Lokogoma, Abuja, was DESTROYED by the guys from the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA). NO WARNING, no prior notice, just pure destruction and over 5,000 birds are dead.”
He questioned the rationale behind the destruction, stating, “How can this happen in a country where I followed every legal process? Let it be clear that all papers, including the (C of O), were obtained and yet, some individuals in this government felt it was okay to destroy what I’ve worked for—an investment of a lifetime.”
The incident has raised fundamental questions about the accountability and transparency of government agencies tasked with regulating urban development in Abuja.
