A day after Ogacheko Atanu assassination at Idah, Bello Visits Chief of Naval Staff, thanks Navy for improved security in Idah.

 

Kogi State Governor, His Excellency Yahaya Bello on Monday paid a courtesy visit on the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas at the Naval Headquarters, Abuja.

The Governor and the Chief of Naval Staff had discussions which included security of the waterways in the state. Governor Bello appealed to the Naval Head on the need to improve security along the confluence especially in Idah and Lokoja Local Government Areas of the State.

Part of statement signed by Kogi state Governor Chief Press Secretary, Mohammed Onogwu, read Vice Admiral Ibas, while presenting a medal to the Governor , commended Yahaya Bello on security, his support for the various security agencies in the state, assuring the Cooperation of the Nigerian Navy with the state government in providing security for the people of the state.

OBSERVERS TIMES recalled Unknown gunmen has killed a Saudi Arabia-based oil worker, Ogacheko Atanu, in his Idah residence, Kogi state. It was gathered that the incident happened on Saturday night at about 11pm when the deceased was about retiring to his bed. It was also gathered that when the assassins stormed the compound of late Ogacheko Atanu, he was asked to say his last prayers before he was shot repeatedly.

His elder brother, Ukubile Atanu, a lecturer in the Department of Arts and Design Kogi State Polytechnic Lokoja, confirmed the incident during a telephone interview with our correspondent on Sunday. Mr Ukubile Atanu, who sobbed profusely over the death of his brother, whom he described as the pillar of the family urged security agencies to ensure that perpetrators are arrested and brought to face the law. According to him, “when the gunmen entered his compound at about 1 .00am on Sunday they told his brother, late Ogacheko Atanu, to say his last prayers before they killed him.
He told them that he will give them money, so that they can spare his life, but they refused. That was how he was shot repeatedly. They didn’t touch the gateman. “After he was killed, his gateman went straight to police station to report the incident. I must tell you, this is another black day in our family. Those behind this evil act must be brought to book,” he narrated. It was further learnt that the deceased who is survived by four children, including an 80 years old mother was billed to travel out of Idah today for Abuja were he is expected to board a flight to Saudi Arabia.
