The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has swiftly responded to Lebanon’s escalating conflict by delivering 17 metric tons of vital medical supplies to Beirut. This emergency shipment, which arrived from Geneva, aims to bolster the country’s strained healthcare system.
Lebanon’s medical infrastructure was already under immense pressure before the recent surge in violence. The ICRC’s timely intervention seeks to bridge the gap in medical resources, ensuring that hospitals can continue providing critical care to those affected.
According to Laetitia Nemouche Armand, ICRC’s health coordinator in Lebanon, “The ICRC is dedicated to supporting Lebanon’s healthcare system during this critical period. These medical supplies will enable hospitals to sustain life-saving services for those impacted by the conflict.”
The ICRC’s medical aid includes essential surgical materials and equipment to treat trauma injuries, burns, and other conflict-related needs. This assistance complements humanitarian relief items pre-positioned in Lebanon before the recent escalation of violence.
In collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health, the ICRC will strategically distribute medical supplies to hospitals and medical centers across Lebanon. Priority will be given to newly established trauma units at Rafik Hariri University Hospital and Zahle Governmental Hospital.
To further enhance local healthcare capacity, ICRC medical teams, comprising specialists in conflict-related injuries, will work alongside Lebanese health professionals. This partnership aims to strengthen their ability to manage severe trauma cases and war injuries.
Through its partnership with the Lebanese Red Cross, the ICRC remains committed to addressing the humanitarian needs of affected communities in Lebanon. The organization’s response focuses on providing healthcare, advocating for international humanitarian law, and addressing essential needs of those impacted by the conflict.
