Committee lays report Wednesday, Gbajabiamila urges turnout of members

The House of Representatives has announced that it will pass the Electoral Act (amendment) Bill on Thursday this week.

The Speaker, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila, made the announcement during Tuesday’s plenary in Abuja.

Gbajabiamila informed members that the report on the bill would be laid on Wednesday by the Chairman of the Committee on Electoral Matters, Rep. Aisha Dukku, ahead of the consideration and passage on Thursday.

The speaker, who advised all members to provide their email addresses so that the soft copies of the report would be mailed to them, also urged them to turn out on Thursday to consider and pass it.

The bill proposes far-reaching changes to the Act, targeted at making the country’s electoral processes, more transparent.

Among some of the key recommendations are electronic voting and candidates’, political parties’ funding for elections.
