The 2023 general election is no doubt approaching fastly, those who have a controlling share in the politics of Nigeria are schematically making their permutations in hope for a victorious and favourable outcome of the election.
No doubt that one of the politicians who will contest for the election is the two terms former governor of Lagos state and the current national leader of the ruling party, the All Progressive Congress (APC) Chief Ahmed Bola Tinubu.
However, his success at the polls will depend on several factors and one of these factors is whom he will finally pick as his running mate.
However, Tinubu is also a Muslim and picking a running mate from among the northern Muslims may never augur with the Christians and as such, they will try to truncate his efforts. Therefore it will be binding on him to pick a northern Christian as his running mate.
However, the only person fit for this task is Simon Lalong, the incumbent governor of Plateau state, this is for two reasons, one he is a northern Christian and secondly he is an APC statesman and loyalist of the party leadership.
The peaceful coexistence of the diverse groups in Plateau state is a reason many have applauded Simon Lalong, as Plateau state is for long known for its ethnic and religious crisis.
Another reason why Simon Lalong would be a better running mate to Tinubu is the numerous legacy projects and rehabilitation of township roads, which he has inspected in Plateau state and still, there are a lot of ongoing projects in the state. Which has won him the love of many citizens of the nation?
Lalong has also moved towards rejuvenating the state schools for the poor and less privileged children in the state who ordinarily would not have been affording education, plus his incessant move towards adding meaning to the life of the physically challenged persons.
Also if Tinubu should pick Lalong as a running mate no doubt the Christians which change their thoughts about Tinubu and move to support him in the 2023 presidential election.
