The Chairman House of Representatives committee on Health,Dr Paschal Chigozie Obi says for optimum utilization of capital funds devoid of abandoned projects in the Hospital, the management under Professor Bissala Ekele is commendable.
The Chairman bare his mind when members of the House committee on Health visited the hospital on oversight assignment.
Dr Obi says despite the lean finances available to the management for procurement, appropriation and execution of capital projects in the Hospital, the committee was impressed by the level of development, hence a review upward of funds allocations to the tertiary health Institutions.
The committee expressed satisfaction with the fiscal discipline,staff development, Infrastructure, and nominal role of the Hospital that was based on pudent management of resources.
” Let me express my position on the fiscal discipline and nominal role for staffers.What we are seeing here today,is very encouraging compare to other establishments we had visited, especially on staffing.’
He assured the management that the budgetary allocations from 2021 is increased by 300% as approved by the House,so as to allow more developement in the tertiary health Institutions.
‘From 2021, they will be an increase in budeteray allocations of about 300% to all tertiary health Institutions to enable them improve on their procurement and capital projects.’
In his remarks, The Chief Medical Director, Professor Bissala Ekele assured the committee of efforts to develop all facets of the Hospital.
He says inspite financial constraints,the Hospital had moved from over 300 beds capacity to over 500 beds with the growing demands of Nigerians.
The CMD also informed the committee of the House of Representatives on the migration of some major components of the Hospital from analogue to online,to ensure seamless service.
‘We have successfully migrated the Health information/Records online to encourage paperless process,and will gradually spread to other departments for effective and efficient management, that will reduced any unforeseen circumstances to the barest minimum.’ Professor Ekele said.
He thanked the House committee on Health for the visit and assessment of progress made so far in the hospital.
