Kogi state capital Lokoja,is again thrown to another critical water shortage, as residents of Government Reserve Area(GRA),where the sit of government resides, were seen carrying empty jerry cans and patronising water vendors at cut throat prices, OBSERVERS TIMES report.

This is compounded by the larger Lokoja community and it’s environs over goverrment’s inability to reticulate water to the entire state capital.

‘Specifically ,since 28th of December,2020 supply and reticulation of pipe borne water built by former administration of Alhaji Ibrahim Idris had stopped without any action from the state government’ A resident of Lokoja says.

The dry taps in the state capital Lokoja is coming at a time when the state governor is aspiring to lead Nigeria as President in 2023.

Most residents of the state capital now resort to buying water from tankers,borehole and rivers that are not treated with serious health implications.

This is coming at the heat of the dreaded pandemic of COVID-19 and other ailements that could threaten the living standard of ordinary kogites.

The Multi Billion Naira lokoja water works was constructed by former Kogi Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, maintained by the subsequent administration and now difficult to run by the current administration of Yahaya Bello.

Reticulation of water thrice in a week had become a mirage,even when the previous administration for 13 years ran the water works ‘free of charge’ to the residents of Lokoja.

Some members of Lokoja Community who prefers name’s not mentioned appeal to state government to rescucitate the greater Lokoja water works after introducing water rates.

This is coming as the supply of electricity is epileptic in the state capital,with bad roads and the dearth of social services in the state capital and across the state.

The only activities in Lokoja now is Bello for President adored all round the state capital and part of the State.

According to the protocols’ of the COVID-19 pandemic,water is a corrolary to sound health as washing of hands with clean water and drinkable ones had become a corrolary to address the disease.
