Newly formed pan-Nigeria political movement, the National Consultative Front (NCFront), said on Sunday that it had not enlisted the support of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (rtd), and other former leaders in the coalition, Daily Independent report.
There were reports that the NCFront is already in talks with Obasanjo, who led a similar coalition in 2018, called Coalition for Nigeria Movement (CNM), in a bid to oust President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 presidential election
However, speaking on Sunday, Dr. Tanko Yunusa, Head, Public Affairs Bureau, NCFront national headquarters, said while the party was in talks with all Nigerians to join the political movement, it was yet to directly reach out to Obasanjo, IBB, and others for support.
He said: “We are in talks with all Nigerians but we have no discussion with Obasanjo, IBB or anybody yet. We are currently mobilising the grassroots where our strength lies.
“The people in the villages, in the nooks and crannies of Nigeria are our targets.
Speaking further, Yunusa said the coalition was aware and prepared for attacks in the days ahead by the presidency and others who would want to crush the movement.
“We are aware and we are undaunted but at the same time, we know that there will be attacks on us for mobilising towards gaining power, but one thing is certain – sovereignty belongs to the people and our strength is in the people,” he said.
He listed unemployment, insecurity, and economic hardship as some of the areas where the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration had failed, adding that Nigerians were now poorer and disillusioned with the state of affairs in the country.
“We have had to watch in dismay, shock and disappointment our dear country slide into anarchy. The country is drifting, virtually no sector is working, the rulers seem irresponsible and incompetent.
“Unemployment is at an unprecedented level, the loss of lives is at a dismal level with scores of Nigerians being killed on a daily basis.
Our indebtedness has reached an alarming rate with the poor state of social infrastructures.
“The feeling is about disillusionment and the feeling among Nigerians is that the days are numbered,” he said.
Na’Abba was summoned by the Department of State Services (DSS) and was released after five hours of grilling.
