The unedited statement Read:
The attention of Ihima Liberation Forum (ILF) has just been drawn to a despicable and show of public shame from a supposed honourable member of Kogi State House of Assembly representing Okehi LGA constituency. It was reported that Hon. Mouktar Baje, the Assembly member representing Okehi LGA who also doubled as Chief Whip of Kogi State of House of Assembly was in Ihima yesterday for a condolence visit at Obeiba-Ihima in company of the SSA Security Okehi LGA, Hon. Abdulraheem Ohiare to Kogi State Government. Hon Mouktar Baje was reported to have slapped and assaulted a member of the public identified as Mr Ibraheem Abdulazeez unprovoked.
The assault, which reportedly occurred was done in the presence of his armed policemen. The Chief whip is not protected by immunity from law and should be investigated and if found wanting be prosecuted for the assault. We call on the State Government to investigate and possible prosecution of Hon. Muktar Bajeh. It was heartbreaking and disheartening that a law abiding citizen would be brutalized in that manner, and worst still by a lawmaker who should not be seen indulging in such behaviour. Every right thinking Kogites should condemn such act in its entirety.
His actions have since drawn massive outrage in Okehi with many calling for him to be investigated and sanctioned appropriately. The conduct of Mr Muktar Bajeh if not checked can likely result to breach of peace which this Government has worked tirelessly to protect. We equally call on his fellow assembly members, other stakeholders and well meaning people of Kogi State to condemn the barbaric and inhumane act. He cannot turn himself into a terror over the same people he swore to protect. We are even more disturbed by his security aides who was there to supervised the callous and inhuman act.
We here by condemn this form of unprovoked aggression and the abuse of office to intimidate ordinary citizens who has done nothing to deserve such punishment. There’s nothing honourable in oppressing those who elected you to offer service and protection.
The voice account of the victim is attached alongside this press release.
