FCCPC partners NAN on core mandates, activities

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has sought for partnership with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) to educate Nigerians on its mandates and activities.

The FCCPC Director General, Mr Babatunde Irukera, during a courtesy call to the NAN Acting Managing Director, Alhaji Biola Lawal, in Abuja said collaborating with NAN was important in reaching out to people across the country.

He said NAN would play significant roles in disseminating information and educating Nigerians on FCCPC core mandates of consumer education and enforcement.

“With this partnership, it is expected more consumers will know their right, and the more consumers know their right, the stronger the regulatory framework and enforcement.

“In addition the more people know what we are doing, the more they are able to demand for their rights and insist on their rights,” he said.

In his remarks, Lawal expressed NAN’s willingness to partner with the commission for the benefit of the people of the country.

Lawal described FCCPC as an agency that played very important role in working for all Nigerians irrespective of their status.

He underscored the need for every government organisation to educate Nigerians through the media on how their mandates were being carried out.

He said the commission’s readiness to partner with NAN was a welcome development as the agency had unique and wider coverage to reach out to large audience.

“To be modest, NAN is the biggest News Agency in the whole of Africa and not only Nigeria as it has offices in all 36 states of the federation and other countries of the world.

“The cost of news gathering is expensive and no medium has the capacity NAN has in terms of wide coverage,” he added.

Lawal enjoined FCCPC to leverage on all NAN unique platforms to educate and inform Nigerians about their activities.

He said the platforms include the Multimedia, the NAN mobile, the NAN website, www.nannews.ng, as well as PRwire.
