Covid19 in Kogi state, time to personal responsibility of keeping yourself, family & others covid free. By Ismai’l Ladan Muhammed

The Kogi government and the political elites are not prepared for this great challenge emerging from the pandemic. The ignorance of majority of Kogi indigenes about the coronavirus is quite unfortunate; The state government is glibly mouthing it, that’s why the ordinary citizen of the state is not taking the present global world challenge as a serious thing.

Kogi state has joined the fray of states with the covid19, and soon, with the pathetic negligence of the state government, Kogi state might suddenly become one the states with the highest cases, except we take responsibility of keeping ourselves safe.

This opinion is not drawn from an unseen observation.I was in Kogi state for the first time since the advent of the outbreak of the coronavirus, there’s nothing as social distancing in the state capital, Lokoja. People are going about their normal activities like it was 2019. States are deporting Almajiris to curve the spread of this deadly pandemic, Kogi state seems to be the new headquarter of the Almajiris, very unfortunate for our vulnerable people.

in other states, the novel coronavirus is exposing the fragility of their sense of nationhood and accelerating the shredding of all pretenses to national unity. But my state government is still fighting the Nigerian center for disease control, NCDC over providing fictitious figure or not. Two weeks back, Kano state government deported back a positive case of coronavirus to his home town in Jigawa – in contravention of both common sense and well established conventions.

Yahaya Bello should be aware we have kogites spread all over the country. And no state will hesitate not to deport any case belonging to another state if by any means detected.

There’s, in fact, no example anywhere in the world where countries deported foreigners in their land because there tested positive for covid19,but in Nigeria, federating units are openly pathologizing and deporting citizen without any consequence.

Am using this medium to call on all kogites to take actions, responsibilities into their hands and be united against this common enemy by any means possible. Coronavirus is in the state and we can’t rely on the government for any reasonable intervention for now.

Remember, Unity is never given and never spring forth from the fantasies of the country’s Self -interested elites. it is consciously sowed, watered, and nourished by equity, justice, consensus building , deliberate healing Of the existential wounds that naturally emerge in our interaction as constituents of a common national space, by acknowledging and working to tend to our Ethnic, religious, Cultural regional fissures.

Let us take the responsibility of keeping ourselves, families, and others safe now.
