Compassionate use of stem cell therapy to treat severe COVID-19 could save lives now: My New Protocol by Akyala Ishaku PhD

COVID-19 has predominated international news as it continues to spread rapidly, ignite widespread health concerns, feed panic and disrupt economies around the world.

What happened to Nigeria Patients that recovered from the virus? Can we map out their bone marrow cells to see if there are cells that are resistant to the virus? If there are cells that are resistant to the virus, can we harvest the cells and purify them, do HLA typing and see if we can repopulate them and get PMBC products from them.

Clinical trials in China are already testing the efficacy of similar stem cell therapies for COVID-19. A recent clinical trial including seven COVID-19 patients showed that a stem cell product improved patient outcomes and rebalanced cytokines to more normal levels. Four new clinical trials planned for COVID-19 in China are designed to test similar types of stem cells derived from umbilical cord blood, but their cells are not well described.

Can we try a Stem cell therapy on African candidates that recovered from the Covid-19?

I have designed and developed a protocol to this effect but:

1.ASUU just commenced indefinite strike
2. No standard lab in Nigeria to do a translation research of this nature

I want all Biomedical scientists to comment on the comment box as we develop a more standard protocol to this regards.

Yours sincerely

Akyala Ishaku Ph.D
