Succor has finally come the way of some communities in Ibaji Local Government Area of Kogi State, under Idah Federal constituency in Kogi State, with the completion of water boreholes, to end the perennial search for water from streams that are not healthy for consumption.
The project, courtesy of the House of Representatives member from the area, David Idris Zacharias who represents Idah federal constituency brings to completion of the first round for all the local governments in Idah constituency.
According to the Senior Legislative Aide, SLA, to David Zacharias, Rilwan Momoh, who spoke on behalf of Zacharias while inspecting the work on Thursday, said the Ibaji project brings to a total three so far drilled across the four local government that make up the constituency.
Although yet to be officially handed over to the benefiting communities, Zacharias through his legislative aide said the project will put to end, decades of trekking long distances to streams to access unsafe drinking water by the community.
Ibaji people now have alternative, at least the communities closer to the place the project is sited will now benefit from the water project until one is sited in their immediate community.
As at the time finishing touches was being done on the project in Ibaji on Thursday afternoon, residents were seen speaking in loud voice, full of praises for the lawmaker who they described as “God sent”.
Some of residents who confided in Rilwan Momoh, on telephone to appreciate the lawmaker ahead of official presentation to the community, they described Zacharias’ gesture as their visible share of the democracy dividends “that eluded us for years and caused our children trek long distances in search of drinking water.”
With the Ibaji water project, the lawmaker has succeeded in siting water projects in parts of Igalamela/Odolu, Ofu leaving Idah as plans are underway to execute one in Idah to complete the first phase of water project.
