Local government staff in Kogi state are lamenting their predicament as a result of non payment of their salaries and drastic reduction of their wages by the state government.
A senior staff in the personnel department in one of the local governments in Kogi East Senatorial zone disclosed this in a phone conversation that the administration of Mr. Yahaya Bello, the Kogi Governor reduced their salaries above 70%.
” Before Bello became a governor, a grade level 7 officer in local government gets N41,00 as a monthly salary, but since Bello came on board, grade level 7 officer gets N11,750 as a monthly salary,he said.
Another senior staff in Idah local government told our reporter that the government no longer pay salaries with grades, they just pay whatever that want.
West Africa Reporters Report that Mr. Eneojo in one of the local governments disclosed that some local government staff collect as little as between N1,700, N3,00 and N5,000 respectively.
“They don’t use grades to compute salaries anymore, they just pay whatever they want”, he said.
A woman who gave her name as Mrs. Ijiga, who does not want her local government mentioned, that despite the huge reduction in their salaries by Bello administration, many local government staff have not been paid for over 34 months.
