THE OBSERVERS TIMES recalls that on 18th of may 2019, while on TVC NEWS Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state disclose that no worker on the government’s payroll is being owed salaries under his administration.
The governor made this known on Friday during a meeting a of the northern governors.
He said the backlog the workers are complaining about are those owed them, by the previous administration.
But today,THE OBSERVERS TIMES report that Kogi State Government has began the payment of salaries. Workers in the state civil service began receiving their alerts for December salaries, though some workers are receiving in percentages while others are yet to receive alert today. The payment is coming after the state last week received an Allocation of N3,542,879,096.96
for the month of April shared in May. Available records however showed that the state still had to source an additional N1.3billion to be able to pay a months salaries and meets it other obligations.
Recalled that workers in the state led by the NLC have alleged that they are owed between eight and thirty eight months salaries an issue that has been denied by the government.
According to the Commissioner for Finance, Asiwaju Idris Asiwaju however said the upload of January salaries is in progress, expressed government determination to offset all salaries by December.
Kogi state in April received a gross Statutory Revenue Allocation of N3,542,879,096.96. But following the state’s loan deductions amounting to N800m, the state would have to still source an extra N1.3billion to be able to pay a months salary and meet other obligations.
The Kogi State wage bill is presently put at N2.9billion, thus making the net statutory allocation of N2,7billion not able to pay salaries and meet her month obligations.
The April allocation is Less N800m for April and with N2.7billion needed to offset the N3.5billion wage bill, the state will need at least N1.3billion over draft to be able to meet its monthly obligations.

Similarly, the allocation to the 21 Local Government Allocation for the month of April 2019 shared in May, 2019 is as follows.
Net Statutory Revenue Allocation = N2,569,739,454.84
Value Added Tax = N670,548,002.86
Exchange Gain = N4,090,208.98
Total = N3,244,377,666.68.
