The House of Representatives has reversed its decision to suspend plenary sessions, announcing it will reconvene on Wednesday, 5th November 2025, following what officials described as positive developments in ongoing discussions with government agencies.
The Green Chamber had earlier on Tuesday resolved to suspend sittings for one week after an executive session where members expressed frustration over the poor implementation of capital components in the 2024 and 2025 budgets.
During the closed-door meeting, lawmakers had threatened strict measures against the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun; the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Atiku Bagudu; and the Accountant-General of the Federation, Shamsedeen Ogunjimi, if debts owed to local contractors were not settled within seven days.
However, hours after issuing the ultimatum, the House announced a change of plans through its spokesman, Akin Rotimi.
“The House of Representatives will reconvene for plenary on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, contrary to the earlier resolution to adjourn sittings until Tuesday next week,” Rotimi said in a statement.
He attributed the reversal to “positive developments arising from engagements and interventions across various levels of government concerning issues that informed the earlier adjournment, particularly matters relating to contractors’ agitations and the non-release of funds under the 2024/2025 budget.”
The Clerk of the House of Representatives, Dr Yahaya Danzaria, formally communicated the decision to members through an internal memorandum issued on Tuesday evening.
According to the memorandum, the early resumption would enable the House leadership to brief members on progress recorded in resolving the contractors’ payment issues and other related matters of national importance.
At Wednesday’s plenary session, the House is expected to formally rescind its earlier adjournment resolution to allow proceedings to continue.
The leadership has urged all members to make necessary arrangements to attend the session.
