The Department of State Services (DSS) has dismissed 115 of its personnel in what officials describe as a sweeping internal clean-up aimed at strengthening professionalism and accountability within Nigeria’s foremost intelligence agency.
Sources within the service revealed that the affected officers were removed after a series of disciplinary reviews uncovered various acts of misconduct, breaches of operational procedure, and failures to meet the agency’s stringent ethical standards.
A senior DSS official, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the mass dismissal, adding that the move underscores the agency’s “zero-tolerance stance on corruption, indiscipline, and compromise.”
“The DSS cannot afford to have any weak links, especially at a time when national security challenges demand the highest levels of integrity and dedication,” the official said.
The agency is yet to release an official statement listing the affected officers, but insiders suggest that the dismissals cut across several departments, including operations, intelligence gathering, and administrative support.
Security analysts have welcomed the move, describing it as a bold step towards restoring public confidence in the service and setting a new benchmark for accountability in Nigeria’s security institutions.
The DSS, established to safeguard Nigeria’s internal security, has in recent years faced criticism over alleged misconduct and abuse of power by some of its operatives. The latest purge, observers say, could mark the beginning of a new era of reform within the agency.
