Controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has sparked outrage and debate after declaring that the United States government is “Nigeria’s enemy,” accusing Washington of undermining the country’s security and sovereignty.
Speaking in Kaduna during a recent sermon, Gumi alleged that America’s foreign policies and involvement in Africa have contributed to the nation’s instability, particularly in the fight against terrorism.
“The US government is not a friend of Nigeria. They are our enemy because they profit from our insecurity and chaos,” Gumi reportedly said. “They pretend to help us, but behind the scenes, they manipulate our leaders and weaken our military strength.”
The cleric, known for his outspoken views and controversial engagements with armed groups, also urged Nigerians to “wake up” and stop depending on Western nations for solutions to domestic challenges.
His comments have ignited mixed reactions across the country, with critics accusing him of promoting anti-Western sentiment, while supporters claim he is merely exposing uncomfortable truths about foreign interference.
