Wolverhampton Wanderers have dismissed head coach Vitor Pereira following a catastrophic start to the 2025/26 Premier League campaign that has left the club rooted to the bottom of the table.
The Midlands outfit announced the Portuguese manager’s departure on Sunday after their opening 10 league fixtures yielded no victories—a run comprising eight defeats and two draws that has placed them eight points from safety.
The club stated on its official website that results and performances this season “have fallen below acceptable standards,” necessitating an immediate change in leadership.
“Upon his arrival at Molineux last December, Pereira and his coaches made an immediate impact, guiding the team to a successful second half of the Premier League campaign,” the statement read.
“However, results and performances this term have fallen below acceptable standards, and as a result, a change in leadership was deemed necessary.”
Pereira departs alongside his entire backroom staff of eight coaches. Under-21 head coach James Collins and Under-18 boss Richard Walker will oversee first-team training whilst the club searches for a permanent successor.
Executive chairman Jeff Shi acknowledged Pereira’s earlier contributions whilst explaining the decision to part ways with the 47-year-old.
“Vitor and his team worked tirelessly for Wolves and helped guide us through a challenging period last season, for which we are grateful,” Shi said.
“Unfortunately, the start to this season has been a disappointment and, despite our strong desire to give the head coach time and matches to find an improvement, we have reached a point where we must make a change.
“We thank Vitor and his staff for their efforts and wish them the very best for the future.”
The dismissal comes merely weeks after Pereira signed a new long-term contract at Molineux, having initially stabilised the club following his December 2024 appointment.
