A senior aide to Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has finally addressed swirling rumours suggesting his imminent defection from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing the claims as false, mischievous, and the handiwork of political detractors.
In a statement issued in Jos, the aide — whose alleged planned defection has generated intense speculation in political circles — said there was no truth to the reports linking him to discussions with opposition parties. He stressed that his loyalty to Governor Mutfwang and the PDP remains “unshaken and absolute.”
According to him, the rumours were deliberately concocted by individuals seeking to sow discord within the administration and distract the government from its ongoing development agenda for the people of Plateau State.
“I remain firmly committed to the vision and leadership of His Excellency, Governor Caleb Mutfwang. Those spreading falsehoods about my political allegiance are merely chasing shadows. We are focused on governance, not gossip,” he stated.
The aide further reaffirmed that Governor Mutfwang’s administration enjoys broad-based support across the state due to its inclusive policies, people-oriented programmes, and transparent approach to leadership. He urged the public to disregard rumours aimed at creating unnecessary political tension.
He also cautioned politicians and social media commentators against circulating unverified information capable of undermining public trust, calling instead for unity and collective commitment to the progress of Plateau State.
“Our duty is to serve, not to engage in petty political speculation. Governor Mutfwang’s government is determined to deliver on its mandate, and no amount of propaganda will derail that mission,” the statement concluded.
The clarification comes amid ongoing political realignments across the country, with several high-profile figures switching party affiliations ahead of the next electoral cycle — a trend that has fuelled speculation and heightened political intrigue in Plateau State.
