Former Big Brother Naija housemate, Tsakute Ladi Jonah, popularly known as Saskay, has opened up about the challenges she is facing as she adjusts to the European style of education.
Taking to her (formerly Twitter) page on Friday, Saskay reflected on the differences between Nigeria’s educational system and the learning approach in Europe, describing the transition as “a bit of a struggle.”
The reality TV star explained that while the Nigerian system largely emphasises memorisation and regurgitation of class lessons during examinations, European education focuses on understanding, research, and real-world application.
“Schooling in Nigeria made me learn exactly what I was taught and spitting it out in tests and exams,” she wrote.
“Schooling in Europe says I need to learn what I’m taught, read more outside of school work, and apply that knowledge to real-life situations in tests and exams. It’s a bit of a struggle, to be honest, especially since I’ve never learnt how to do the latter.”
Saskay, who recently began her Master’s degree in Global Security and Strategy at the Brussels School of Governance in Belgium, said the experience has been both exciting and demanding.
She revealed that securing the opportunity took five years of patience, resilience, and self-doubt, admitting that there were moments she almost settled for a programme she was not passionate about.
Despite the initial challenges, Saskay said she remains determined to adapt to her new academic environment, describing the process as part of her personal and intellectual growth journey.
“It’s a new way of learning and it’s taking some getting used to, but I’m ready to put in the work,” she added.
