Nottingham Forest has named Sean Dyche as the club’s new head coach on a contract running until 2027, the Premier League club confirmed on Tuesday. The 54-year-old, who previously managed Burnley and Everton, takes over from Ange Postecoglou, who was dismissed after a disappointing 3-0 loss to Chelsea on Saturday.
Dyche, a former Forest trainee under the iconic Brian Clough, is the third manager to be appointed this season. This marks his return to management after parting ways with Everton earlier this year.
While former Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini and Fulham’s Marco Silva were also reportedly considered for the role, Forest ultimately decided on Dyche. The club praised Dyche for his “character, tactical expertise, and proven success” in a statement, outlining his suitability to lead the club through its next phase.
Dyche’s tenure will begin with a Europa League match at home to Porto on Thursday, followed by his first Premier League fixture against Bournemouth on Sunday.
His coaching staff will include Ian Woan and Steve Stone, both former Forest players, who will assist him as part of the new regime.
Postecoglou’s departure came just 40 days into his tenure, making him the shortest-serving permanent manager in Premier League history. After taking charge in the summer, Postecoglou failed to secure a win in his first eight games, prompting Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis to act quickly.
Forest currently sits in the relegation zone, with only five points from eight matches, despite investing over £100 million in new signings during the transfer window.
