Labour Party leader and former presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, has issued a stern warning to individuals and organisations using his name and image to promote commercial ventures online.
In a statement titled “False Use of My Name for Online Promotions” and posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, Obi condemned the unauthorised use of his identity for financial gain, describing such actions as “fraudulent, deceptive, and aimed solely at exploiting public trust.”
“Despite earlier clarifications issued by my aides, some persons have continued to exploit my identity for personal and commercial gain, thereby misleading unsuspecting members of the public,” he wrote.
Obi made it clear that he has no affiliation with any business or online platform using his name for endorsements. “At no time have I authorised any individual, business, or online platform to use my name, image, or identity for commercial purposes or profit-making ventures,” he stated.
The former Anambra State governor also urged Nigerians to be vigilant and not fall for misleading advertisements or promotional content falsely linked to him.
“The general public is therefore strongly advised to disregard these false claims and exercise utmost caution when encountering any online content that purports to represent or involve me in business dealings,” he warned.
He assured that any legitimate information concerning his activities or engagements would be communicated “through officially verified channels.”
