The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has responded to Vice President Kashim Shettima’s criticism of its strike over the dispute with the Dangote refinery, insisting that the nation’s interest outweighs that of both Dangote and the Presidency.

PENGASSAN National President, Festus Osifo, reaffirmed the union’s commitment to protecting the jobs of its members allegedly dismissed by the Dangote refinery for joining the association.

“The nation is bigger than PENGASSAN, just as it is bigger than Dangote and the Presidency,” Osifo said. “We have a duty to defend the jobs of our members, and we will do so whenever necessary. If the same situation arises tomorrow, our response will not change.”
