FIFA has officially revealed the match ball for the highly anticipated 2026 World Cup, named “Trionda.” The ball combines cutting-edge technology and a design that honors the tournament’s three co-host nations: the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
During a special unveiling event in New York on Thursday, FIFA President Gianni Infantino expressed his excitement, stating, “I am delighted and proud to present the Trionda.” This marks the first time in history that the World Cup will be co-hosted by three countries, with 48 teams set to compete in the tournament.
The name “Trionda” and its design reflect the unity of the three host nations, blending red, blue, and green colors. The ball features distinctive symbols from each country: maple leaves from Canada, the eagle from Mexico, and stars from the United States. A triangle is also incorporated into the design, symbolizing the collaboration of the three nations.
While the ball’s design showcases national pride, it also comes packed with technological innovations. The Trionda features deep seams, which enhance “optimal in-flight stability,” ensuring a consistent performance on the pitch. Additionally, embossed icons improve grip, making the ball ideal for play in wet or humid conditions.
One of the most exciting features is the integrated motion sensor chip. This chip relays real-time data on the ball’s movement to the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system, further enhancing match accuracy and decision-making.
The unveiling of the Trionda marks a significant milestone as the countdown to the 2026 World Cup begins. The tournament, set to take place from June 11 to July 19, 2026, will be the first World Cup held across three nations.
In parallel, FIFA has launched its phased ticket sales, attracting over 4.5 million fans from 216 countries and territories into the presale draw. The eagerly awaited tournament draw will take place in Washington on December 5, 2025.
