Liverpool’s unbeaten run in the Premier League came to a dramatic halt on Saturday after Crystal Palace sealed a 2-1 win at Selhurst Park, with Eddie Nketiah scoring a stoppage-time winner.
Ismaila Sarr opened the scoring early in the first half, punishing a hesitant Liverpool defence that failed to clear a corner. The Reds, who had relied on late goals in their previous five league wins, looked to have been spared once again when Federico Chiesa levelled from close range in the 87th minute.
However, Palace showed resilience in front of their home crowd. With seconds left on the clock, Nketiah found space in a congested penalty area and calmly slotted home to seal all three points. The result leaves Palace as the only unbeaten team in the league, extending their club-record streak to 18 matches across all competitions.
Victory lifted Oliver Glasner’s side into second place, three points behind Liverpool at the top of the table. Arsenal could reclaim second spot if they secure victory away to Newcastle on Sunday.
At the Gtech Community Stadium, Manchester United’s inconsistent form continued with a 3-1 defeat to Brentford. Ruben Amorim’s side conceded twice in the opening 20 minutes following defensive errors, with Igor Thiago capitalising on a poor offside trap before scoring again after goalkeeper Altay Bayindir failed to deal with a cross.
Benjamin Sesko pulled one back before half-time, but Bruno Fernandes’ missed penalty proved costly. Mathias Jensen struck in stoppage time to confirm Brentford’s victory, leaving Amorim under growing scrutiny.
“We didn’t control the game. We played the game of Brentford,” the United manager admitted afterwards. “All the crucial moments were against us. We need to do better.”
Manchester City recovered from an early scare to thrash Burnley 5-1. Pep Guardiola’s men were helped by two own goals from Maxime Esteve before Matheus Nunes restored their lead. Erling Haaland then scored twice in added time, taking his tally to 15 goals this season.
Chelsea’s frustrations deepened as they fell 3-1 at home to Brighton. Enzo Fernandez gave the Blues the lead, but Trevoh Chalobah’s red card early in the second half changed the momentum. Danny Welbeck and Maxim De Cuyper turned the game around before Welbeck added a late second to seal the win.
