The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has officially unveiled the results for the 2025 June/July National Business Certificate (NBC) and National Technical Certificate (NTC) exams. A significant highlight is the improvement in performance, particularly in Mathematics, reflecting the growing success of Nigeria’s vocational and technical education system.
Dr. Mohammed Aminu Mohammed, the Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of NABTEB, made the announcement in Abuja on Thursday, noting the record 92,875 candidates registered for the exams. This figure marks a 37.08% increase compared to the 2024 enrolment, with a notable rise in the number of centres, which grew by 10.77%.
The candidates sat for a diverse range of subjects, including 16 Engineering Trades, seven Construction Trades, nine Miscellaneous Trades, four Business Trades, and 16 General Education Subjects. Out of the registered candidates, 89,621 had their results released, with a commendable 61,104 (68.18%) achieving five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics. Additionally, 74,633 candidates (83.28%) scored five credits or more, regardless of whether English and Mathematics were included.
“More candidates passed Mathematics while fewer candidates passed English Language this year when compared to last year’s examination results,” Dr. Mohammed explained. He highlighted that 93.10% of candidates who sat for English Language passed, while Mathematics recorded a higher pass rate at 94.60%.
The Registrar also noted a decrease in the incidence of examination malpractice, revealing that 435 candidates were involved in 516 cases, down from 524 cases involving 349 candidates in 2024. This reduction signifies a positive trend in the fight against malpractice within the system.
Registration for the upcoming 2025 November/December NBC/NTC and Advanced National Business Certificate (ANBC)/Advanced National Technical Certificate (ANTC) exams has already commenced. Prospective candidates can now access the NABTEB portal or visit any State or Zonal office for registration guidelines.
Dr. Mohammed further emphasized the growing importance of vocational and technical education in Nigeria’s national development, stating, “In today’s 21st-century world, the need for comprehensive TVET is highly crucial.” The board’s efforts underscore its pivotal role in strengthening Nigeria’s technical and vocational education, which plays a critical part in equipping the youth with practical skills for employability and economic growth.
Established under Decree No. 70 (Act 70) of 1993, NABTEB has been at the forefront of administering technical and business exams across the country, ensuring that certification meets national standards and provides relevant qualifications for learners in various trades.
