The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has revealed that the Department of State Services (DSS) and the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) are tracking politicians behind the country’s insurgency.
Speaking on Channels Television, Musa revealed that the Department of State Services (DSS) and the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) are also pursuing terrorism financiers, with some prosecutions already in progress.
He lamented that weak laws often frustrate counterterrorism efforts, with high-value suspects walking free on technicalities.
He urged lawmakers to create special courts for terrorism cases, warning that the current system emboldens criminal networks.
Musa accused some politicians of exploiting insecurity for political gain, noting that violence often spikes in the run-up to elections.
“How do you want to govern a people you’re helping to destroy?” he asked.
The Defence Chief also linked Nigeria’s security crisis to the collapse of Libya and instability in Sudan, saying weapons are easily accessible across the Sahel.
He called for stronger border security and regional cooperation with neighbouring states.
He stressed that insurgents depend on local enablers for fuel, logistics, and hideouts, urging Nigerians to stop shielding terrorists.
“This war cannot be won by the military alone,” he said.
Despite the challenges, Musa pointed to recent successes, including the arrest of top commanders, and praised the sacrifices of frontline troops.
