The Anambra State Government has kicked off a free high-speed internet project across public spaces in the state, targeting students, traders, and political gatherings.
The initiative, called Solution WiFi, is part of Governor Charles Soludo’s push to make Anambra a digitally connected state. It was unveiled by the Deputy Governor, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, alongside top government officials including Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, and Deputy Chief of Staff, Chief Chinedu Nwoye.
The project, which is being delivered through the Geeks and Founders Alliance for Soludo (GEFAS), comes ahead of the November 2025 governorship election, where the former Central Bank governor is seeking re-election.
Speaking during the launch, Managing Director of the State ICT Agency, Chukwuemeka Agbata, said, “This is another clear step in bringing the smart Anambra vision to life. People can now access free internet on the go it’s a boost for learning, business, and engagement.”
The initial phase features a branded Hummer bus and shuttle vehicle, both fitted with internet delivery equipment. The rollout has already connected 1,932 users at a recent political rally, with 68 per cent of them logging on via the Hummer bus network.
The free WiFi was first deployed during the Anambra Central endorsement rally for Governor Soludo. GEFAS also used the event to test its digital campaign tools, capturing 588 verified voter records including phone numbers and polling details.
So far, the GEFAS call centre has made nearly 40,000 calls across the state to boost civic engagement and campaign messaging.
Agbata explained, “We’re not just campaigning. We’re using technology to connect with people and listen. That’s what this is about.”
Anambra is the first South-East state to eliminate right-of-way charges for telecom infrastructure, helping expand broadband access. The government says it is committed to deepening digital inclusion as part of its development agenda.
Residents attending public events can connect to the Solution WiFi network by enabling WiFi on their devices and selecting the network. Organisers say more hotspots will be activated in the coming months.
“Anambra is rising,” the project team said in a joint statement. “With continued public support, we’ll keep expanding digital access across every local government.”
