ABUJA — The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has condemned Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for what it described as a “shameful threat” against former presidential candidate Peter Obi.
In a statement released on Friday, the opposition coalition accused Governor Okpebholo of warning Obi against entering Edo State without his permission and stating that the politician’s security “is not guaranteed.”
The CUPP statement described the governor’s remarks as a “veiled death threat” and a direct assault on the constitutional rights of a law-abiding citizen. According to the coalition, the comments came in response to Obi’s visit to Edo State to donate ₦15 million to a nursing school.
Signed by Chief Peter Ameh on behalf of the coalition, the statement added that the governor’s actions reflect a dangerous ignorance of constitutional freedoms and an unacceptable display of arrogance from a public servant.
The group called for swift and unequivocal condemnation of the incident from all quarters, including civil society and political leaders, to ensure accountability.
