Manchester United have reportedly agreed a £65 million (approximately $87 million) deal to sign Cameroon winger Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, as manager Ruben Amorim accelerates his overhaul of the team’s struggling attack.
Mbeumo, 25, caught Amorim’s eye after netting 20 goals in 38 Premier League appearances for Brentford last season. The winger’s impressive form also attracted interest from Tottenham Hotspur, now managed by former Brentford boss Thomas Frank, but United’s improved offer sealed the transfer after two previous bids were rejected.
In addition to the initial fee, Manchester United will pay Brentford up to £6 million in potential add-ons.
Mbeumo is set to undergo a medical ahead of travelling with the squad to the United States on Tuesday for the start of pre-season preparations. He will become United’s third signing since the close of last season, joining Wolves forward Matheus Cunha and teenage Paraguayan defender Diego Leon.
Amorim is determined to revamp United’s forward line following a disappointing campaign that saw the club finish 15th in the Premier League—their lowest league position since 1973-74—and suffer a toothless 1-0 defeat to Tottenham in the Europa League final.
The club’s previous strike options, including Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, struggled to deliver consistent performances last term. Meanwhile, Amorim has reportedly advised Alejandro Garnacho to seek a new club, while Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho are expected to depart after loan spells at Aston Villa and Chelsea respectively.
Mbeumo’s versatility allows him to operate across the flanks and in central attacking roles. His pace, creativity, and clinical finishing are expected to provide a significant boost to United’s attacking options.
Since joining Brentford from French side Troyes in 2019, Mbeumo has scored 70 goals and provided 51 assists in 242 appearances across all competitions. He played a key role in Brentford’s promotion to the Premier League in 2021 and their impressive 10th-place finish in the 2024-25 season.
Despite failing to qualify for the Champions League—resulting in a revenue shortfall of at least £70 million—Manchester United have committed to a summer spending spree, having already invested £62.5 million in Cunha.
