The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State has suspended Habibu Umar, the lawmaker representing Kirfi Local Government in the state House of Assembly, over allegations of insubordination.
In a letter addressed to the Speaker of the House, Abubakar Sulaiman, and signed by PDP Chairman Sama’ila Burga, the party cited violations of its 2017 Constitution.
The party subsequently formed a disciplinary committee on November 11, 2024, to investigate the allegations.
“After critical investigation and evaluation, the committee found the honourable member guilty of violating Sections 58 (9) (1) and (f) of the party’s constitution. It recommended his indefinite suspension in line with Section 59 (4) and (5),” the chairman added.
“He is barred from engaging in any party-related activity pending further developments,” Burga emphasised.
Although the PDP’s statement focused on constitutional violations, sources within the party alleged that Umar’s suspension stems from his reported alliance with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, sparking internal tensions.
This decision highlights growing disciplinary measures within the Bauchi PDP amid speculations of factional alignments.
