Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has revealed plans to acquire four aircraft at a cost of N41,132,463,000 to further develop the state-owned airline, Enugu Air. The announcement was made during the presentation of the N971 billion 2025 Budget Appropriation to the State House of Assembly.
Governor Mbah emphasized his administration’s commitment to transforming Enugu State into a commercial hub within Nigeria. The proposed budget includes a Capital Expenditure of N837.9 billion and a Recurrent Expenditure of N133.1 billion.
In addition to expanding Enugu Air with the acquisition of new aircraft, the budget also includes plans for the concessioning of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport and the construction of an international cargo terminal. Furthermore, a new taxi scheme in collaboration with the private sector will be launched to modernize transportation services in the state.
The 2025 budget proposal focuses on significant investments in education, infrastructure, and public services to drive inclusive development and poverty eradication. Governor Mbah highlighted the state’s impressive growth in Internally Generated Revenue as a key indicator of progress towards economic self-sufficiency.
The governor expressed optimism about Enugu’s economic future and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to achieving top-tier GDP status nationally. The proposed budget represents an 86.4% increase from the previous fiscal year, with a total envelope of N971,084,000,000 allocated for Recurrent Expenditure and Capital Expenditure.
