A group of loyalists from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), known as the Coalition of PDP Intellectuals Worldwide, has called on the party to designate its presidential ticket for the 2027 elections to the southern region of Nigeria.
During a press conference in Abuja, the National Coordinator of the coalition, Mr. Grema Muhammad, emphasized that the PDP’s failure to adhere to its power rotation principle contributed to its losses in the 2019 and 2023 presidential elections. He pointed out that this oversight not only cost the party the presidency but also led to a decline in its support in the South-East.
Muhammad stressed the importance of learning from past mistakes, stating that the party must prioritize its interests and ensure that the presidential ticket is returned to the southern part of Nigeria. He called for the selection of a capable and trustworthy candidate to represent the party in the upcoming elections.
He urged all PDP members, including respected elders, governors, and stakeholders, to unite in this effort, emphasizing the need for a dual reform: implementing zoning for the presidential ticket and prioritizing competence in candidate selection.
Muhammad reiterated that the collective goal of all PDP members should be the party’s victory in the presidential election, urging that personal ambitions should align with the party’s interests. He announced that the coalition would actively campaign across various regions to amplify their message until it resonates throughout the party.
