After a series of missed deadlines, the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC) Ltd in Rivers State has finally commenced crude oil processing, marking a significant milestone for Nigeria’s energy sector, OBSERVERSTIMES Report.
Femi Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), announced the news, expressing enthusiasm for the impact this development will have on the nation’s energy independence and economic growth.
Acknowledging the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the NNPC Board, and GCEO Mele Kyari, Soneye emphasized the collective commitment to reshaping Nigeria’s energy future through projects like this one.
Truck loading is set to begin immediately, with plans underway to bring the Warri Refinery back online in the near future.
The successful start of operations at the Port Harcourt Refinery follows multiple previous deadlines that were not met. Despite challenges, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil) Heineken Lokpobiri, and Group Managing Director Mele Kyari have remained steadfast in their dedication to revamping Nigeria’s refining capacity.
Kyari’s optimism for a future where Nigeria becomes a net exporter of petroleum products further highlights the industry’s potential growth and stability moving forward.
