Lagos Governorship not family Affairs – Lagos PDP reacts to Seyi Tinubu endorsement

The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has firmly opposed the potential candidacy of Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, in the upcoming 2027 gubernatorial elections. This reaction follows endorsements from various groups, including the Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders, which has suggested Seyi Tinubu as a viable candidate.

The group Friends of Seyi Tinubu has lauded him as a visionary leader with remarkable qualities. However, the Lagos PDP is not swayed by these endorsements.

PDP spokesperson Hakeem Amode criticized the notion of governance as a family entitlement, declaring, “Lagos will not serve him.” He emphasized that any attempt to impose Seyi Tinubu as governor would encounter significant resistance from the electorate.

“Governorship is not a gift,” Amode stated in an interview with Punch, highlighting that the people of Lagos have already expressed their discontent with the Tinubu political dynasty during the recent presidential election, where they voted against President Tinubu.

Amode reiterated that many Lagosians rejected President Tinubu at the polls, signaling that they are unlikely to support his son’s aspirations for the governorship.
