In a deadly clash between Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), Boko Haram insurgents reportedly killed a prominent ISWAP naval commander, Mallam Abduraman, also known as Alhaji Hud’da or Hafsochi.

The slain commander, notorious for his brutal tactics, controlled areas around Abadam and Kukawa, where he was responsible for widespread violence against civilians, farmers, and fishermen.

Sources indicate that another ISWAP leader, Ali Kwaya, managed to escape the clash and is believed to be hiding in the Sabon Toumbun area.

The  Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) faction of Boko Haram has expanded its control over numerous islands in the Central and Northern Lake Chad Region Basin Area (LCRBA), spanning Niger, Chad, Nigeria, and Cameroon.

Leveraging these remote areas, particularly in the upper North LCRBA along the River Komadougou Yobe, JAS has mounted repeated attacks on rival Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) camps.

The group’s influence has grown with increased tax collection, control over trade, and a steady supply chain from across the Sahel and Sahara. Recently, a surge in arms deliveries via camel convoys from Libya has strengthened JAS camps in the northern LCRBA.

Additionally, a continuous inflow of food and other logistics from Nigerian border communities such as, Hadejia and Maigatari in Jigawa and Yusufari, Yunusari in Geidam, has bolstered their operations.
