US President, Biden Phones Tinubu Discuss Strengthening U.S.-Nigeria Collaboration in Law Enforcement and Security

President Bola Tinubu received a phone call from U.S. President Joe Biden on Tuesday, which lasted approximately 30 minutes and took place around 4 PM Nigerian time.

The conversation was disclosed by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, during a briefing with State House Correspondents.

The discussion primarily focused on the recent release of Tigran Gambaryan, the Head of Finance Crime Compliance at Binance, and the broader collaboration between the two nations regarding law enforcement agencies.

Tuggar stated, “The call was about the collaboration between the two countries with regards to law enforcement and law enforcement agencies as well as the release of one of the suspects from the cryptocurrency exchange company that you are all aware of.”

President Tinubu expressed gratitude to the U.S. for its partnership in various security initiatives across Africa and West Africa. In response, President Biden emphasized the importance of this partnership, noting that the future of the world is closely tied to Africa.

Additionally, the leaders discussed Africa’s representation in the United Nations Security Council, with Biden reaffirming the United States’ commitment to supporting Africa’s bid for a permanent seat, stating that Nigeria should be considered for one of those seats.
