Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), has publicly refuted claims made by Simon Ekpa, a controversial Biafran agitator, regarding her involvement in securing a loan for the Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE). Ekpa had posted on social media platform X, alleging that the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) had agreed to provide a $57.5 billion loan to BRGIE, purportedly facilitated by Okonjo-Iweala.

However, Okonjo-Iweala has categorically denied these assertions, emphasizing that the claims are unfounded and misleading. In her response, she expressed concern over the misuse of her name and urged individuals to stop spreading falsehoods. She highlighted the importance of clarifying misinformation, especially in the current climate, stating, “I know no sensible person will believe what is contained in the outrageous tweet below but in these troubled times it is important to underscore that the statement is false.”

Her statement serves as a clear denunciation of the false claims, reinforcing her position against the unauthorized use of her name in spreading misinformation.
